Ireti Ajala –MTN’s  Senior GIS Specialist joins Spatial Technologies Ltd

Ireti Ajala joins Spatial Technologies Ltd (STL) as the Managing Partner. He had spent 9years in the spatial industry in Nigeria in different capacity.

Previously, he worked for over 5years as the head of the GIS unit at MTN Nigeria where he was responsible for making all decisions on GIS and other spatial technologies to support Nigeria's largest telecommunication operator. His unit's annual budget exceeds USD1,000,00

MTN Nigeria is Nigeria’s largest telecommunication company netting over 13million subscribers within just 6years of operation. MTN Nigeria is a member of MTN Group -Africa’s largest telecommunication Company.

While with MTN Nigeria, Ireti served as the head of the GIS unit and was principally responsible for developing the award winning “Hourly dynamic maps” for MTN Nigeria which is currently being used to monitor network availability, congestion, and call drop rate.

Ajala also played a leading role in developing a GIS concept for Location Area Code (LAC) planning and Base Switching Centers (BSC) capacity planning based on recent and projected traffic. This single solution according to the former RF Planning & Optimization HOD (Abiodun Adeoye) saved MTN Nigeria an estimated capital expenditure of USD35,000 plus USD5,250 in support and maintenance

Ajala also produced Subscribers’ Density maps and analysis that assisted MTN Nigeria in locating Connect Stores or Customer Care” stores in 7 major towns across Nigeria. Ajala is arguably one of Nigeria’s foremost GIS experts with special emphasis on telecommunication as a search for “GIS Specialist in Nigeria” will reveal. Prior to joining MTN, he had worked with Environmental Information Factor (EIF) –a Lagos based mapping and GIS company where he served as the assistant GIS Manager.

He had written, and published a number of GIS papers especially in telecommunication. Some of these include:

Spatial Analysis of GSM Subscriber Call Data Records

GIS and GSM Network Quality Monitoring: A Nigerian Case Study

Nov 26, 2005

He had also delivered a number of technical papers on GIS within Nigeria. Ajala is a registered member of Geo-Information Society of Nigeria (GEOSON) and Geospatial Information & Technology Association (GITA). He had attended GIS seminars and conferences in New York, Florida, London, Edinburgh, South Africa, Nigeria, etc. He holds a Master in GIS and a BSc degree in Land Surveying.

He is enthusiastic about joining STL –a company that he described as “focused on GIS and mapping and having a massive impact on the emerging spatial industry in Nigeria”
