STL is proud to announce the release of innovative dynamic maps
to the Nigerian market to assist telecommunication companies in
monitoring their network status better, faster and more
efficiently. The
deployment of this new spatial product will greatly assist
telecommunication companies to quickly identify areas that are
suffering from low network quality such as high drop call rates,
congestion rates, Busy Hour Availability rate, etc.
The dynamic maps are usually produced as reports from the
content of the switching huge databases using a new breed of
intelligent reporting tool based on maps. The use of these
dynamic maps provides a dramatic improvement over the
traditional row-column formats used at the NMC (Network
Monitoring Centers) by most telecom companies.
The use of the maps will also help marketing and sales
executives to make informed business decisions regarding the
identification of geographic areas within their network that
represent the 'high yield' areas, and areas where the company is
losing money to high congestion, and drop call rates.
This solution was first developed by Ireti Ajala in 2004 and
deployed at MTN Nigeria to assist network optimization Engineers
to study areas that have problems with key network performance
issues such as congestion rate, call drop call rate, low network
availability, etc.
The use of the dynamic maps at MTN had reduced the workload of
the average monitoring engineer by more than 50%, enhanced
response time to network issues by more than 60% and generally
increase efficiency by more than 50%. For more information about
this solution see

Ajala who is now STL's Managing Partner once headed MTN’s
GIS unit in the Network Group Department for over 5years before
resigning in 2007 to head STL. He is regarded as one of the
foremost GIS experts in telecommunication within Nigeria.
Ajala said that "the use of these specialized maps will bridge
the knowledge gap between the engineers and the non-technical
executives especially in the way that network status is reported
and understood as even non-technical executives are now
empowered by these maps to associate places with technical
details and depend less on the engineers to produce summary
reports."
This is just one of the innovative products that STL had
developed to assist telecommunication companies in Nigeria to
make informed technical and business decisions. STL has the
technical and managerial skills in applying spatial technologies
to benefit telecom companies in so many practical ways.
